At the beginning of 2025, there were around 291,000 electric cars on the road, of which around 124,000 were all-electric cars and around 167,000 plug-in hybrids. The number of electric cars has increased by around 31% compared to the beginning of 2024.
There are around 118,000 all-electric passenger cars and 167,000 plug-in hybrid passenger cars. At the end of 2024, the share of all-electric cars and plug-in hybrids in the passenger car fleet was around 4.3% and 6.0% respectively. In total, around 10.3% of the passenger car fleet were electric cars.
There are around 4,500 electric vans in the car fleet, or around 1.3% of the fleet. There are 127 electric lorries in circulation, representing around 0.1% of the lorry fleet.
Just over 960 electric buses and coaches are in service, accounting for almost 9% of the total fleet.
